TARHA DESIGN GARDEN AND CAFÈ / DESIGN MUSEUM HELSINKI

August 2001
The TARHA Design Garden and Café event took place at the Design Museum café in August of 2001. The project exhibited and analysed the function, emotionality and aesthetics of a number of ceramic and glass objects that were at prototype stage. The café was a natural environment for this type of objects. Rather than being displayed on pedestals, the objects were exhibited and used as a part of functioning café. The visitors could choose from a special menu, from which tableware they wanted to enjoy their coffee and cake. The designers worked as waiters and waitresses, serving the customers, discussing the designs and collecting feedback. The event was a success: the exhibition visitors/cafeteria customers were eager to discuss the function and aesthetics of the objects and pleased to take part in the design process.
